How deep can this machine detect metal?
There is no solid answer to this question because it will depend on the size of the coil being used and the size of the target being detected, as well as debris or ground mineralization. The scales on the detector display (Target ID and Depth) are based on coin-sized targets. The standard coil (8.5″ x 11″ DD) shipped, soil type, metal type and size, and user skill will determine the depth at which a detector can detect a target. An air test (holding a target below the coil) will produce impressive depth (distance).

It can detect small objects like coins around 12-14 inches.

How easy is it to use this?
If this is your first detector personally, I would prefer a beginner type detector such as a Garrett Ace 250 or 300.
It comes with a DVD to guide you through setup and get you up and running. It costs much less and works very well.

It’s not necessarily difficult to use, but it takes some time to understand the way it detects different types of metals. The various sounds and numerical information on the screen are helpful in determining what your target might be before you dig any entry level machine you get has the same principle of understanding basically what fits your budget and how serious you are involves. the hobby You may want to check out the Garrett Ace line if you are unsure of your ability to grasp the more complicated models.
