It's very lightweight, so easy for kids to use, but has a few bells and whistles for them as they get more involved. Very sturdy, I have used it in a few inches of water it works well. He buried different metals in the sand to test it out and it works fine a foot deep or so. Overall, very good starter detector for both kids and adults.

PROS

• - Sounds when there is metal nearby... yes!
• -Easy to use, lightweight, accurate, for beginners I highly recommend it

CONS

• - Requires 2 9V batteries. Running this detector regularly as a hobby would be expensive.
• - 'Metal type' and depth indicators were not accurate
• - Bad battery compartment design.
